Introduction
e-commerce is an elective course directed understanding the changes taking place in electronic commerce.  We will focus on the business strategies and issues that are based on industry standards and protocols.  The course will be concerned with three aspects of e-commerce:  network infrastructure, e-commerce business issues, and technological foundations.

The course is structured as an in-depth survey course (???) that provides:

  1. insight into the changes taking place in real-time advertising, promotion and introduction of new products.

  2. understanding of EDI and the changes that impact manufacturing, production and supply chain management.

  3. a foundation for understanding the convergence of telecommunications, computing and databases into a business model.

  4. an introduction to e-commerce technology such as software agents, security and encryption, multimedia databases, and structured documents.

  5. insights into emerging business opportunities and models in e-commerce.

Considerable time will be spent with visiting lecturers and on-site visits studying e-commerce.
